We are a software-focused solutions provider that helps clients modernize their existing systems, mature their engineering processes/tools and development methodologies, and create high-quality, cloud-first custom applications. 

 

As a principal, you will deliver transformative consulting engagements for large and complex application portfolios for our clients. You will be a trusted advisor and a force multiplier who creates a competitive advantage for the clients you serve.   Your sphere of influence aligns with the executive and senior management levels and ranges from strategic to tactical advisory.  

  

Responsibilities: 

  

You will be responsible for building a practice and expanding consulting services in Application Modernization and Development, growing our teams, and improving our internal processes. You will ensure successful delivery of solutions through engagement management responsibilities and play a pivotal role in sales efforts by working with clients, estimating projects, presenting our approach, and driving contract negotiation; they build followership as thought leaders by creating technical and marketing content; and they grow our teams and community by mentoring teammates, and by providing career advocacy.  

 

You will be expected to: 
  

  • Deliver engagements that drive the development of cloud-first software solutions. 

  • Play a key role in sales activities such as attending client discovery and qualification meetings, creating project proposals, estimating project deliverables, and writing scopes of work. 

  • Work with clients to understand their business goals and technical requirements 

  • Assess the current state of an organization's software applications and identifying areas for improvement. 

  • Identify and evaluate new technologies and approaches that could be used to improve the performance and capabilities of the organization's applications.  

  • Develop and execute a plan to modernize those applications 

  • Lead a team of consultants and developers in the implementation of application modernization projects. 

  • Maintain a portfolio of practice offerings including frameworks, methods, solutions, tools, and reusable artifacts to maximize engagement value. 

  • Generate market eminence and demand for Softchoice by publishing whitepapers and generating speaking engagement opportunities. 

  • Organize and lead discussions and events; create workshops, develop seed projects, and collaborate on internal process improvements.  

  • Coach and mentor other Principals / Studio employees and become a role model for the Softchoice design studio community. 

 
What you'll bring to the table: 

  

  • 12+ years of experience in application architecture/enterprise architecture, systems integration, and/or custom software development 

  • 5+ years of experience in solution consulting or a similar customer-facing role 

  • 3+ years of experience developing cloud systems (AWS, Azure, or GCP) 

  • Experienced in one or more of the following languages: C#, Java, JavaScript, Python 

  • Knowledgeable in modern software architectures and supporting infrastructure environments (e.g., microservices, serverless, containerization) 

  • Proven success in delivering value with agile methods (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) 

  • Prior team leadership, management, or consulting leadership experience 

  • Highly effective communication skills with client-facing and executive level management 

  • Demonstrated, applied experience delivering complex projects, with at least one major data center to cloud transformation project under your belt. 

  • Some operational experience working with incident management or SRE teams. 

  • Some experience in establishing infrastructure-as-code practices in the enterprise.

The broad scope of responsibility requires a solid understanding of both business and technology strategy, change management, and a principled and structured approach to broad digital transformation challenges and opportunities.  

 

You have demonstrated outstanding technical achievement of significant impact in application modernization.   Ideally, you will have honed your craft through many years of developing, delivering and/or operating complex application portfolios on a variety of technical stacks, with many different team topologies.  Having worked through a multitude of real-world challenges, you have the scar tissue to show for it. 

 

You are an evangelist, a spokesperson for your trade, and are sought out in the industry for your knowledge and experience.   You love presenting ideas and teaching others, and you relish opportunities to put both familiar and novel technologies to work in innovative ways. Your growth mindset means you never stop looking for ways to expand your horizons.  

 

Additionally, you will possess some of the following qualities:  

  

  • A proven ability to bring people together, build consensus, and mobilize teams towards a vision. 

  • An affinity for frameworks for structured thinking and guidance with an ability to know when, where and how to deviate from a framework to better meet a business objective 

  • Ability to seamlessly work across teams of developers, product management, security, and operations teams 

  • A passion for presenting, training, teaching
