The impact you will have:


Softchoice Design Studio seeks a Principal Data Strategy to expand its IT Strategy Advisory and Cloud Advisory capabilities. You will manage engagements advising clients at the highest strategic level with big-picture and tactical guidance on how technology enables various business outcomes. You will need to be ambitious, enterprising, and personable, possessing outstanding leadership qualities, allowing you to assume a critical role in the Studio and scale over time. You must have analytical, interpersonal, and creative thinking capabilities.


Principals guide customers through three elements of the digital transformation journey – strategic, technical, and cultural so that customers can continue to innovate on their own. For clients, the Principal connects them to unique perspectives and constructive disruptions that inspire them to drive the future story of their business together with Softchoice and the Softchoice ecosystem. They co-create, accelerate, and deliver a digital transformational journey built on deep customer knowledge and empathy.


What you'll do:


As a Principal, you will play a critical role in supporting the Design Studio Strategy team in driving our customer's strategy and vision for data strategy and automation. Our strategy team is a dynamic group that is energized by the art of the possible how technology will shape our customers world in the next ten years.


Some of the things you can expect to do while flexing your customer-facing consulting muscles:


  • Data Product Development: assist with designing cutting-edge solutions and products that leverage data to deliver critical insights and intelligence for our customers.
  • Data Governance: assist with designing governance assessments and strategies, providing customers with a comprehensive model for managing their enterprise data. Including recommending solution frameworks that incorporate enterprise changes to people, processes, and tools.
  • Interactive Analytics & Visualization: assist with guiding our customers in the art of the possible modern data analytics and visualization tools (such as Power BI, Google Data Studio, and Tableau) to create interactive solutions.
  • Data Analytics and Insight: assist with walking our customers through how to turn existing data into valuable business insights through automated tools and processes for collecting, storing, and visualizing critical benchmarks. This includes insights into modern data analytic and visualization tools with a future option to expand your skills into advising on advanced analytics utilizing Python and R.
  • Data Management: assist with assessing and developing roadmaps for comprehensive data solutions to address reporting, analysis, and decision-making needs. This includes best practices for data mapping and data integration processes to improve existing systems and build new ones.

In addition to your excitement about everything data, as a Principal, you will also expand your consulting skills:

  • Be an active leader and play a key role in end-to-end client engagement – deliver technology-enabled future solutions. This will involve all business value chain activities, from understanding product needs to product development to advising on ongoing maintenance and enhancement.
  • Work directly with existing and potential clients to develop and sell industry-leading data strategy and business intelligence platform solutions.
  • Practice Development, perform the role of a counselor and coach and provide input and guidance in the staffing process. 
  • Connect customers to unique perspectives and constructive disruptions that inspire them to drive the future story of their business together with Softchoice and the Softchoice ecosystem 
  • Co-create, accelerate, and deliver a digital transformation journey built on deep customer knowledge and empathy
  • Guide customers through the three elements of the digital journey – strategic, technical, and cultural so that clients can continue to innovate on their own

Finally, you will be an active learner, identifying new or better ways to deliver impact with people and technology. You will develop a growth mindset and relish opportunities to use familiar and unfamiliar technologies, closed source, and open-source software.


You will embrace agile software development practices and contribute to the growth and improving our PODS at Softchoice. You will also hone your business and consulting skills through interactions with non-technical colleagues through cross-functional collaboration.


What you'll bring to the table:


The broad scope of responsibility of this role requires a solid understanding of both business and technology strategy, change management, a principled approach to broad digital transformation challenges and opportunities. Our Principals know their customer industries and business and how Softchoice can help them drive their digital transformation. They also share a standard set of characteristics – such as strong leadership and people skills – and bring the experience that drives innovation and customer value.

  • Minimum five years' experience in customer-facing consulting
  • Demonstrated, applied experience establishing and delivering complex projects
  • Excellent communication skills for breaking down complex, technical ideas in a way that is useful to the layman
  • Strong consulting experience within the different domains that make up data strategy, data intelligence, and business intelligence strategy
  • Capability to perform process analysis and advise on the implementation of database or software solutions
  • Capacity to learn and teach customers about the database and software solution features and functionality
  • Strong aptitude to develop high-level database design or software solutions with the support of technology or architect SMEs
  • Strong aptitude for advising and working with our data design and configuration teams
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced learning environment
  • Ability to utilize both technical and social skills to assist clients
  • Passion for using technology to tackle business problems
  • Strong conceptual thinking, creativity, and flexibility
  • Self-sufficient with the ability to self-manage
  • Work well both independently and in a team
  • Experience in: Data Integration, Data Analytics, or Data Visualization such as Tableau, Power BI, and Google Data Studio
  • Understanding of Big Data solutions and tools such as Hadoop, NoSQL, Sqoop, and Hive. (preferred)
  • Nice to have: Python, R, Visio, and other AI solutions
